Welcome to the Register of Professional Contractors

The Register of Professional Contractors (RPC) is a not-for-profit organisation that exists to promote integrity, honesty and service within the construction and built environment sector. We offer free membership to professionals who meet our strict standards – but membership isn’t easy to achieve. Every applicant is assessed on three key criteria: their qualifications, their experience and their character.

Your Qualifications

When you apply, your qualifications will be considered as part of the process.

We don’t expect everyone to have the same background, but whatever your level, your training and experience will be taken into account in showing your suitability to work as a professional contractor in the building industry.

Your Experience

Your experience will also be considered when you apply. Every contractor’s journey is different, and we recognise that skills are built in many ways.

Whatever your background, the knowledge and practical experience you’ve gained will be taken into account in showing your suitability to work as a professional contractor in the building industry.

Your Character

We also take your character into account as part of the application. Being a professional contractor is not only about skills and qualifications but also about honesty, reliability, and the way you treat others.

Your good character is an important part of showing your suitability to work as a trusted professional in the building industry.

The Register is open to builders, carpenters, surveyors, architects, and those working in the construction and built environment sectors. Our aim is straightforward: to protect the public from poor practice and help genuine professionals stand out.

This is why we assess character as well as skills. All contractors can make mistakes, but it is their attitude to those mistakes that distinguishes them as professionals.

Members can use the ‘RPC’ designation, display the logo, and benefit from free CPD training, discounts, and affiliate services. Most importantly, membership provides recognition as a trusted, skilled professional.
