Who We Are
The Register of Professional Contractors is a not-for-profit organisation founded to improve public trust in the construction and built environment sector.
We are different from other professional bodies:
- Membership is free
- Our standards are high
- We prioritise integrity and character as much as qualifications
The register was created with a simple purpose: to protect vulnerable individuals from being taken advantage of by unqualified or unscrupulous tradespeople. We believe that true professionalism is more than paperwork – it is about transparency, honesty, and doing the right thing.
We have all heard stories of people being cold-called by contractors, pressured into paying for unnecessary work, and then left with shoddy results.
That is why we look at both character and quality. We welcome people who take responsibility when mistakes happen, who follow professional business practices, and whose aim is always to deliver a good job for a fair price.
So, while qualifications are important in many areas, it is ultimately a contractor’s character that makes the difference. Contractors with few formal qualifications, but who consistently do excellent work, are welcome on the Register.
